Sass Pordoi (2950 m) is one of the southern ramparts of the huge fortress of the Sella Group, together with Piz Chiavazes it guards the entry to Val Lasies, the biggest valley of the group. It is a plateau-like peak with a moon-shaped landscape.
Since 1962, a cable car overcomes the 700 meters of altitude difference between Passo Pordoi (2,239 m a.s.l.) and Mt. Sass Pordoi in 4 minutes. The view up the mountain on the cable car is truly spectacular with snow-capped ranges appearing in the distance as you get close to the summit.
On top of Sass Pordoi, there’s Rifugio Maria which offers a panoramic terrace where you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Once at the top, you have an almost 360-degree view. There are walks up to an even higher point.
There's a hiking trail (T2) leading to the summit. Sas de Pordoi is one of the 6 peaks along the multi-day Alta via n. 2 delle Dolomiti - Dolomiten-Höhenweg Nr. 2.
