At an elevation of 4,810 m (15,781 ft.), and with a prominence of 4,697 m (15,410 ft.), Ultra mountain, Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) can be found over a large area that spans across two countries, Italy and France. Also known as ‘White Mountain,’ Mont Blanc is an exceptional experience, featuring among the Top 10 of the Alps. It is surrounded by three towns of which two is in France - Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and Chamonix – and another, Courmayeur, in the Aosta Valley, Italy.
Mont Blanc is the highest mountain of the Alps and ranks 11th in the world with regards to topographic prominence. It has a prominence level of 4,697 m (15,410 ft.).
The mountain was only ascended in 1786 by mountaineering enthusiasts, Jacques Balmat (mountaineer and Savoyard mountain guide), and Dr. Michel Paccard (Savoyard alpinist and doctor). Marie Paradis (a maidservant who lived in Chamonix, Kingdom of Sardinia) was the first women to reach the summit of Mont Blanc in 1808. She became known for her admirable feat as, Maria de Mont Blanc.)
The Mont Blanc Tunnel is quite famous as well. It is 11km long and forms part of the trans-alpine transport route.
There's an alpine trail (T4) called Les Bosses leading to the summit. Mont Blanc is one of the 5 peaks along the The Goûter.
The nearest mountain hut is Refuge Vallot located 1 218m/3 996ft WNW of the summit.
