About

At an elevation of 2,669 m (8,757 ft.), and with a prominence of 309 m (1,014 ft.), Hohe Ferse - Monte Tallone Grande is a mountain that forms part of the Eastern Rhaetian Alps and is situated in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy.

This mountain is part of the Botzer Group of mountains and although is not the highest in the group, Hohe Ferse is the most central of the group. It is considered as the most strategic lookout point in its group of mountains due to the sharp peak which lends views towards Zillertal- Sarntal- and Ötztal Alps.

The area is popular with skiers in the winter months. However, this locale is better-known for its mines. There was once considerable mining activity of metals, however, mining was discontinued with the onset of the early 20th century. Today some of these mines are kept open as a tourist attraction. Marble is also found in the area of the Botzer Group of mountains and although there are quite a few quarries in the area, only one is operational today.
