At an elevation of 2,678 m (8,786 ft.), and with a prominence of 439 m (1,440 ft.), Cima Santa Maria forms part of the Southern Rhaetian Alps. It is situated in the Province of South Tyrol, Italy.
After Mount Fibbion, Cima Santa Maria is the most prominent mountain in the Campa group. The starting point is Andalo village in Val di Non. At the sports center in the village, signboards for trail No. 301 can be seen. The trail takes the hiker through a dense forest until it reaches a hairpin bend at 1,450 m.
On heading north along paths 302 and 338, Val dei Cavai and Sella del Montoz have to be climbed. Then the climber must turn west and cross a couple of rocky stretches, which end in a ridge leading to the summit. On the summit, there is a sculpture of the Madonna, after which Cima Santa Maria is named.
The area around Cima Santa Maria is bear country, so one should proceed carefully so as not to have any sudden, unpleasant encounters. It is, however, an added incentive for animal lovers who may be interested in observing bears in their natural habitat.
There's a demading hiking trail (T3) leading to the summit.
