It is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Pacific Northwest and offers a variety of activities for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Location

Mt. Hood Meadows is located on the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, just 67 miles east of Portland. The resort is situated at an elevation of 5,000 feet, allowing for some of the best skiing and snowboarding conditions in the area. It is one of the most accessible ski resorts to a major metropolitan city in the country.

Nearest Airports

The closest airports are Portland International Airport (PDX) and Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM). From either airport, it is approximately a two-hour drive to Mt. Hood Meadows.

Driving Directions

From Portland, take I-84 east to Hood River and then Follow US-26 E to OR-35 N in Government Camp or follow I-84 E to Button Bridge then take Highway 35 S south to Mt. Hood Meadows. The resort is located at the end of Highway 35.

Shuttles and Public Transportation

The Mt. Hood Express shuttle service operates from downtown Portland to Mt. Hood Meadows. The shuttle operates seven days a week and reservations can be made in advance.

Moving Around

The resort is spread out over several miles and offers a variety of transportation options for getting around. Mt. Hood Meadows is again partnering with Columbia Area Transit (CAT) for the 2022-2023 season to provide daily shuttle service between Hood River and the resort. There are also several rental shops for those who want to rent skis, snowboards, and other equipment.

Season

The ski season at Mt. Hood Meadows typically runs from mid-November to mid-April. The resort is open seven days a week and offers night skiing on select days. Night operations are scheduled Wednesday - Sunday evenings into early March (conditions permitting)

Snow and Weather Conditions

With an average snowfall of more than 400 inches, Mt. Hood Meadows is known for its unparalleled powder. The resort is blessed with abundant natural snow, thanks to its high elevation and Pacific Northwest location. The snow quality is consistently good, and the snowpack holds up well even during extended dry spells.

To keep the slopes in top condition, Mt. Hood Meadows has a snowmaking system, which covers about 25% of the terrain and ensures excellent conditions all season long. The resort also boasts a well-equipped grooming fleet that maintains the slopes to perfection.

Ski Map

Mt. Hood Meadows covers an impressive 2,150 acres of skiable terrain, with 87 runs, 12 lifts, and a vertical drop of 2,777 feet. The resort is designed with skiers and snowboarders in mind, and the layout is intuitive and easy to navigate.

You can enjoy a detailed trail map, which shows the various slopes and lifts. The ski map also indicates the difficulty level of each run, from beginner to expert, so you can plan your day accordingly.

About Slopes and Ski Lifts

Mt. Hood Meadows offers a diverse range of terrain, with something for every skier and snowboarder. The slopes are classified into four categories: Green (Beginner), Blue (Intermediate), Black (Advanced), and Double Black (Expert).

In total, the resort has 13 green runs, 25 blue runs, 38 black runs, and 11 double black runs. The longest run is 3.7 miles long (Heather Canyon to Cascade), and the resort's overall skiable length is 11 miles.

Nordic Center in the resort features extensive cross-country skiing options with up to 15 kilometers of groomed and set tracks running through stunning wooded trails and meadows. Whether you prefer Skating or Classic striding, the center caters to all levels of terrain, provides lessons and equipment rental.

Mt. Hood Meadows offers half day Snowshoe Tours with diner and Umbrella Falls Tour it is a great opportunity to explore the beauty of the mountains and in a peaceful atmosphere. The route meanders its way through mature conifer forests, following the headwaters of the Hood River into glades and through a beautiful, snowy landscape with Umbrella Falls being one of the highlights of the tour.

The resort offers plenty of opportunities for backcountry skiing, from gentle slopes to steep chutes. The resort also offers a variety of educational programs, such as avalanche safety courses, to ensure that skiers and snowboarders are prepared for the backcountry.

The resort boasts nine eateries, each offering distinct dining experiences. Apart from the full-service, sit-down dining options offered at the Alpenstube Restaurant and Vertical Restaurant, one can also opt for quick service dining at the Sahale Grill, Schuss Grill To Go Express, Fresh Tracks Grab & Go, Wildflowers Cafe, or Higher Grounds Cafe.
