At an elevation of 661 m (2,169 ft.), and with a prominence of 206 m (676 ft.), Wannenberg forms part of the Swiss Prealps. It is situated near the town of Schaffhausen, in the province of Oberklettgau, Switzerland.
Wannenberg is not very high, and it is pleasant and easy to climb. The environment is well-preserved, and visitors will get to see a wide variety of flora and fauna. The historical town of Schaffhausen features several highly-expressive samples of architecture dating back to the Renaissance period. There are 35 buildings or sites registered as Swiss heritage sites that are protected and funded by the Swiss government.
Schaffhausen is surrounded on three sides by Germany, and in 1944, an American bomber strayed into neutral Switzerland due to a navigational error and bombed the city, which resulted in the death of 40 civilians. An apology was immediately issued by President Roosevelt, who offered 4 million dollars by way of reparation.
There's a trail leading to the summit.
