Sasso Gordona is home to a World War I fort that was dug into the rock. This fort is part of the Linea Cadorna and named for an Italian general. During that time the Swiss and Italians were afraid of attacks from each other and therefore build forts and other infrastructure to provide better defense and strategic benefits during wars.
