At an elevation of 1,849 m (6,066 ft.), and with a prominence of 74 m (243 ft.), Punta Stoppani forms part of Lecco Resegone in the Bergamasque Alps and Prealps. It is situated near the town of Lecco, in the Lecco province of Lombardy, Italy.
For hikers, there are about 16 routes that pass Punta Stoppani at some point. The ascent goes along a sharp backbone ridge, but the descent from the peak is more difficult as the angle is quite steep. When snowfall is adequate, there is good skiing on Punta Stoppani.
In the town of Lecco, there is a monument dedicated to Abbot Antonio Stoppani, the father of Italian geology. It once stood in the Piazzale dei Mille, facing his favorite mountain, Resegone, but in 1934, it was moved to Antonio Stoppani Square.
There's a demading hiking trail (T3) called Sentiero per Punta Stoppani leading to the summit.
The nearest mountain hut is Rifugio Luigi Azzoni located 282m/924ft SE of the summit.
