At an elevation of 3,841 m (12,602 ft.), and with a prominence of 2,061 m (6,762 ft.), Ultra peak Monviso is the tallest peak in the Cottian Alps and is situated close to the French border of Italy.
Monviso is an Ultra peak because of its high prominence; it is also much higher than other surrounding mountains in the area. Because of this, Monviso is often seen to resemble a king surrounded by his peons.
Rumor has it that Monviso inspired the Paramount Studio intro sequence that has become so famous around the world.
There's a demanding alpine trail (T5) called Monviso - via normale leading to the summit.
