At an elevation of 2,973 m (9,754 ft.), and with a prominence of 377 m (1,237 ft.), Cook Peak is located in the Washburn Range in Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming, United States.
The peak was first called Thompson Peak by Philetus Norris in 1880 and Storm Peak by the Arnold Hague Geological Surveys team in 1885. It was only renamed Cook Peak in 1922.
