Åre Björnen

Åre Björnen is one of three ski resorts of a larger ski area known under the common name Åre, which in turn is one of more than 250 in Sweden (the other two are Åre By, and Åre Högzon). It is located in the Jämtland County in the central western part of the country on the border with Norway in the Scandinavian Mountains. The Åre area's altitude is between 380 and 1,274 m with a difference of 894 m. It is the nearest ski resort to the city of Östersund. The main feature of Åre ski resort is that it is the biggest ski area in Sweden with more than 90 km (mi) of slopes and more than 30 ski lifts in total. The resort is best suitable for easy and intermediate skiing — most of its slopes are blue and red. For advanced skiers, it has less than 10 km of black slopes. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Åre season is from mid-November to early May in general.
