Mount Ulawun has an elevation of 2,334 m (7,657 ft.), and a prominence of 2,334 m (7,657 ft.). This andesitic and basaltic stratovolcano is on the island of New Britain, in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. Due to its prominence above 1,500 m, Mount Ulawun is considered an Ultra mountain. This is unique, since there are only 1,524 such peaks on Earth)
In 1700, William Dampier recorded the first eruption. Since then, twenty-two (22) eruptions have been recorded, which makes Mount Ulawun one of the most active volcanoes in the country of Papua New Guinea.
