At an elevation of 7,861 m (25,791 ft.), and with a prominence of 331 m (1,086 ft.), Nuptse I is situated two kilometers west-south-west of Mount Everest in the Nepalese Himalayas, in the Khumbu area of the Mahalangur Himal, Nepal.
Nuptse, sometimes written as Nubtse, is the Tibetan word for “West peak.” Nuptse I is the tallest of numerous mountains in the Lhotse-Nubtse range.
