At an elevation of 6,955 m (22,818 ft.), and with a prominence of 163 m (535 ft.), Gasherbrum VII forms part of the Karakoram Range in the Himalayas. It is located at the north-eastern end of the Baltoro Glacier, in the Gilgit-Baltistan territory of Pakistan.
Gasherbrum VII is one of the remote Gasherbrum group of peaks, which includes three of the world’s 8,000m peaks. The others have been summited successfully, but not Gasherbrum VII, despite numerous attempts to climb it.
