Mount Akhun, with an elevation of 662 m (2,172 ft.) and a prominence of 352 m (1,155 ft.), is famously known for the 100 ft. Romanesque tower based at its summit that was built by limestone ashlar in 1936.
Mount Akhun (Akhun Peak) is situated in the Khostinsky City District of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai (federal subject), in the Russian Federation, and is part of the Caucasus Mountains.
The mountain has significant cultural value to the Ubykh community, who are local descendants of the twelve Adyghe (Circassian) tribes and spoke the Ubykh language (1860’s) that unfortunately died out in 1992. Mount Akhun is sacred to them, and was affectionately known in the Ubykh language as ‘the mountain giant.’
There's a trail leading to the summit.
