Rwanda is a small country in central Africa, sandwiched between its larger and more well-known neighbors: Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The main feature of the Rwanda mountains is the Virunga Range, a branch of the larger Albertine Rift Mountains, which includes a series of eight active volcanoes, the highest and the most prominent of which is Mount Karisimbi (4,507 m / 14,787 ft). However, the country is best known for Lake Kivu, one of the so-called smaller Great African Lakes, which is located on its western borders. There are 374 named mountains in Rwanda.
