Steinplatte-Waidring is one of more than 650 ski resorts in Germany and one of more than 420 in Austria. It is located between the German region of Bavaria and the Austrian region of Tyrol in the Chiemgau Alps range in the larger Bavarian Alps of the Eastern Alps at an altitude between 740 and 1,860 m with a difference of 1,120 m. It is one the nearest large ski resorts to Salzburg in Austria. The main feature of Steinplatte-Waidring ski resort is that it is one of the three biggest ski areas in Germany with more than 40 km of slopes and more than 10 ski lifts in total (two others: Balderschwang–Hochschelpen, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen). The resort is best suitable for intermediate and easy skiing — most of its slopes are red and blue. For skiers, the resort has a couple of km of black slopes. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Steinplatte-Waidring season is from early December to early April in general.
