Balderschwang–Hochschelpen is one of more than 650 ski resorts in Germany. It is located in the Bavaria region in the Allgäu Alps range in the larger namesake Bavarian Alps of the Eastern Alps at an altitude between 1,000 and 1,500 m with a difference of 500 m. It is the nearest ski resort to the town of Sonthofen. The main feature of Balderschwang–Hochschelpen ski resort is that it is one of the three biggest ski areas in Germany with more than 40 km of slopes and more than 10 ski lifts in total (two others: Steinplatte-Waidring, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen). The resort is best suitable for easy and intermediate skiing — most of its slopes are blue and red. For advanced skiers, the resort has about 10 km of black slopes. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Balderschwang–Hochschelpen season is from mid-December to late March in general.
