At an elevation of 3,155 m (10,351 ft.), and with a prominence of 193 m (633 ft.), Zapporthorn is a mountain located between the villages of Hinterrhein, Calanca and Mesolcina, two kilometers from the Ticino border in Switzerland.
IMPORTANT: This mountain is a major climbing challenge, and not suitable for amateur climbers.
Covered by snow, at least partially most of the year, Mount Zapporthorn can give hard-core mountain climbers a run for their money during the winter months due to thick snow, blizzards, and avalanches. During the winter, the best way to get around on the mountain is via ski's
NOTE: The terrain has been described as "boring" by some mountaineers due to the gradual and long slopes, although, avid skiers will enjoy their time here, as these slopes are ideal for skiing.
