At an elevation of 1,691 m (5,548 ft.), and with a prominence of 140 m (459 ft.), Monte Galbiga is regarded as a scenic viewpoint and is also a popular hiking destination near the city of Como, situated in Lombardy province, Italy.
Monte Galbiga is part of a mountain range known as the Lugano Prealps but is most famous for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets, as well as the excellent view it provides over the Alps, especially that of Monte Rosa.
The area has several beautiful lakes of which up to six is visible on a clear day.
It is possible to stay at Venini Galbiga Mountain Hut, which is more of a hotel than a hut. It was used as barracks by the Alpine troopers back in the day.
There's a hiking trail (T2) leading to the summit.
The nearest mountain hut is Rifugio Venini located 571m/1 872ft ESE of the summit.
