Zugspitze is one of more than 650 ski resorts in Germany and one of more than 420 in Austria. It is located between the German region of Bavaria and the Austrian region of Tyrol in the Wetterstein Mountains range in the larger North Tyrol Limestone Alps of the Eastern Alps at an altitude between 2,000 and 2,720 m with a difference of 720 m. It is the nearest ski resort to the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the place of the 1936 Winter Olympics, but the Bavarian capital Munich is not far away. The main feature of Zugspitze ski resort is Zugspitze (2,962 m / 9,717 ft), the highest mountain in Germany, from the summit of which you can ski. The resort is also in the top ten in Germany with more than 20 km of slopes and more than 10 ski lifts in total. It is best suitable for intermediate skiers — most of its slopes are red. For easy skiers, there are just a few km (mi) of blue slopes, and there are no black ones at all. But you can find them in Garmisch, which has 10 km of each type, plus an additional 20 km of red ones. So it makes sense to visit these resorts together. The most common type of ski lift is a T-bar. The Zugspitze season is from mid-November to early May in general.
