Tignes

Tignes is one of more than 250 ski resorts in France. It is located in the Upper Savoy department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the Vanoise Massif in the larger Graian Alps range of the Western Alps. It is one of the nearest ski resorts to the French cities of Grenoble and Chambery, and the Italian Aosta and Turin across the border. The main feature of Tignes ski resort is Grande Motte mountain (3,653 m / ft), which summit you can almost reach with a ski lift up to 3,456 m from 1,550 m, so the difference is 1,906 m. More: you can do it even in the summer because the mountain hosts the namesake Grande Motte Glacier. The resort has more than 100 km of slopes and more than 30 ski lifts in total. It is also in the top 5 ski resorts of France as 1/2 of the larger Tignes/Val d'Isère area with more than 300 km of slopes and more than 80 ski lifts in total. This entire area is best suitable for easy skiers — most of its slopes are blue. However, for intermediate and advanced skiing, it has more than 50 km of red and black slopes each. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Tignes/​Val d'Isère season is from late November to early-May in general.
