Hemsedal is one of more than 170 ski resorts in Norway. It is located in the Viken region in the central part of the country in the Scandinavian Mountains at an altitude between 620 and 1,450 m with a difference of 830 m. It is the nearest large ski resort to Oslo, the capital of the country. The resort is best suitable for easy skiing — most of its slopes are blue. For intermediate skiers, it has just about 10 km of red slopes. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Hemsedal season is from early November to early May in general.
