At an elevation of 3,194 m (10,479 ft.), and with a prominence of 139 m (546 ft.), Mount Lendenfeld is the sixth highest peak in New Zealand. It is situated near the town of Twizel, in the Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. The best time to climb Mount Lendenfeld is from September to March.
Mount Lendenfeld was named after Robert Lendlmayer von Lendenfeld who was an Austrian zoologist, traveler, alpinist and avid mountaineer born in 1858. Some of his most well-known works were Über Coelenteraten der Südsee (1886), Report on the deep-sea fishes collected by H. M. S. Challenger during the years 1873-76 (1895) and Tetraxonia der Deutschen Südpolar-Expedition, 1901-1903, published in 1908.
