Les Portes du Soleil is one of more than 350 ski resorts in Switzerland and one of more than 250 in France. It is located between the Swiss region of Valais and the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the Savoy Prealps range of the Western Alps at an altitude between 985 and 2,254 m with a difference of 1,269 m. It is one of the nearest large ski resorts to the Swiss city of Geneva and the French city of Annecy. The main feature of Les Portes du Soleil ski resort is that it is the biggest ski area in Switzerland and the second-biggest in France after Les 3 Vallées with more than 580 km of slopes and more than 160 ski lifts in total. The resort is best suitable for easy and intermediate skiing — most of its slopes are blue and red. However, for advanced skiers, there are also more than 50 km of black slopes. The most common types of ski lifts are a chairlift and a T-bar. The Les Portes du Soleil season is from early December to late April in general.
