Mount Hotham is one of 8 ski resorts in Australia. It is located in the state of Victoria in the southeast of the country in the Victorian Alps of the larger Australian Alps, the highest part of the Great Dividing Range at an altitude between 1,450 and 1,845 m with a difference of 395 m (ft). It is one of the most popular ski resorts near Melbourne. The main feature of Mount Hotham ski resort is that its namesake village is Australia's highest alpine village located at 1,750 m. It is also called the "Powder Capital of Australia": “The storms hit the resort from the south with a cold northwest airflow and bring to Mount Hotham (1,864 m / 6,115 ft) a lot of deep dry snow”. The resort has more than 30 km of slopes and more than 10 ski lifts in total. It is best suitable for intermediate and advanced skiing — most of its slopes are red and black, For easy skiers, there are just about 5 km of blue slopes. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Mount Hotham season is from early June to late September in general.
