At an elevation of 5,960 m (19,554 ft.), and with a prominence of 1,653 m (5,423 ft.), Mount Paniri is a stratovolcano situated in El Loa Province, in the Antofagasta region, Chile. The volcano has three craters and forms part of the Andes range.
Due to its prominence above 1,500 m, Mount Paniri is considered an Ultra mountain. This is unique, since there are only 1,524 such peaks on Earth.
The villagers of Ayquina consider Mount Paniri as sacred and pay tribute to the mountain during ceremonies. The first recorded ascent of Mount Paniri was in 1972 by Claudio Lucero and Nelson Muñoz. In a crater lake of Paniri, the fairy shrimp, Branchinecta brushi, was discovered.
