At an elevation of 2,021 m (6,631 ft.), and with a prominence of 510 m (1,673 ft.), Mousa Ali is a volcano that signifies the tri-point of the Afar region of Ethiopia, the Southern Red Sea region of Eritrea and the Tadjourah region of Djibouti.
Mousa Ali is the highest point in Djibouti. The last recorded eruption of the volcano was during the Holocene era, approximately 12,000 years ago. The summit comprises rhyolitic lava domes and flows known as a caldera.
