There is a rough dirt road up Midway Peak, not a trail. But you’ll almost never see a vehicle use it. The east side of the mountain is not scenic and a giant oil field is at its base. At the top, the view to the west is awesome. You’ll see more mountains across the valley to the west, and that valley is Carrizo Plain National Monument. The view of the uplift line of the San Andreas Fault which runs through the middle of the plain is amazing. This place is VERY hot, dry, and isolated in summer. Lots of tarantulas roaming about in fall. Beware rattlesnakes.
There's a trail leading to the summit.
