14ers (fourteeners) are the mountains higher than 14000ft / 4267m with at least 300ft / 91m of topographic prominence.
According to the Mountaineering Club of Alaska, it is standard in Alaska to use a 500-foot (150 m) prominence rule rather than a 300-foot (91 m) rule. It helps to filter out some unnamed subpeaks of Denali (a national park in Alaska) and other less known summits.
As part of our mountain data quality assurance, we regularly review the peaks information, compare it to many other public resources and trip reports. Often we find contradicting information and dream of venturing into the wilderness and measuring precise data ourselves. But before that we unleash all our analytical skills and rocket science algorithms to determine the most accurate parameters.
Here we present you the most accurate list of fourteeners in the US as their prominences and elevations were meticulously calculated and triple checked by hand on high precision 1 arc second Digital Elevation Models. On this page you’ll find an interactive map and all the 14ers names with links to their pages grouped by states.
