Sestriere (Via Lattea) is one of more than 180 ski resorts in Italy and one of more than 250 in France. It is located between the Italian region of Piedmont and the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in the Cottian Alps range of the Western Alps at an altitude between 1,372 and 2,789 m with a difference of 1,417 m. It is the nearest large ski resort to the Italian city of Turin. The main feature of Sestriere (Via Lattea) ski resort is that it is the biggest ski area in northwestern Italy with more than 400 km of slopes and more than 70 ski lifts in total and the second-biggest in Italy as a whole after Dolomiti Superski (500 km). The resort is best suitable for intermediate skiers — most of its slopes are red or more than 200 km. However, for easy and advanced skiing, the resort has almost 100 km of blue and black slopes each. The most common type of ski lift is a chairlift. The Sestriere (Via Lattea) season is from early December to mid-April in general.
