Altyn-Emel National Park is one of the 13 national parks of Kazakhstan, the largest country in Central Asia, located in the southeast of its territory. The main feature of the park is its diverse and at the same time characteristic for this country landscape, including the mountains of three mountain ranges: the Altyn-Emel range, given its name, and Aktau Mountains, as well as the larger Dzungarian Alatau. The second feature is a vast desert with the famous huge "singing dunes" from which the wind blows the sand. There are also plenty of archaeological and historical monuments with national value. There are 19 named mountains in Altyn-Emel National Park. The highest and most prominent mountain is Gora Matay (2,871 m / 9,419 ft).
