Wadi Rum Protected Area is the main natural area of Jordan, a country in the center of the Middle East, which is located in its southern part. The main feature of the area, which is given its name, is the stony desert of Wadi Rum which resembles the Mars landscapes with many mountains such as the sacred Jabal Al-Madbah, incredible rock formations such as the "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", canyons such as Siq, and the entire small city of Petra carved into the sandstone mountains. This also makes the area a UNESCO site of the same name. There are 83 named mountains in the Wadi Rum Protected Area. The highest and most prominent mountain is Jebel Rum (1,751 m / 5,745 ft).
